William M. Stryker passed away peacefully at home in Saratoga Springs NY on November 14th at the age of 79. His loving companion Linda Maroney was at his side at the time of his departure, providing comfort and support until the end. Bill was born in Teaneck, NJ on November 8, 1946.
At the age of 13 he and his family moved to Bennington VT, where he attended school until his return to Hackensack, NJ where he graduated in 1965. His studies continued and were completed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, CT, where he learned machining. Bill returned to Bennington, VT in 1979, where his life took on a new chapter. He and Linda met in the summer of 1980, within two years Bill, Linda and her daughter Allison moved up to Bennington. From 1981 to 1993 Bill had a successful career at the Burlington General Electric plant. He enjoyed many happy years during this time, some of his favorite hobbies included hunting, hiking and skiing.
Bill was also an avid fisherman; he loved to travel to Maine with his family when he could to visit the coast. In 1994 Bill and Linda relocated one more time to Saratoga Springs NY, where he continued his career with General Electric in Schenectady. In 2011, he had the pleasure of retiring from the plant so he could spend time relaxing and enjoying time well spent with friends and family. In his retirement he and Linda loved spending time back in Vermont, visiting Allison and her own children Emma and Lucas MacKenzie. Bill lived life to the fullest, even when facing the devastating diagnosis of dementia. Through it all he remained positive and strong, making the most of every day. Linda being his primary caregiver, saw to it that his quality of life was never compromised. Friends and family were there to support him and show him love in his final days.
He is survived by his partner, Linda Maroney; his children, Sherry Ziter and Jeffrey Ziter; and his stepdaughter, Allison Lauer. His grandchildren, Elizabeth Ziter, Jacob Ziter, Ella MacKenzie, and Lucas MacKenzie. He also leaves behind his brothers, John Stryker (Sharon) and Robert Stryker (Betty). His surviving nieces and nephews include Tammy Stryker, John Stryker Jr., David Stryker, Naomi, Nicole, Robert Stryker Jr., Craig, Randy, and Todd Redick. As well as a cousin Lynn Carrigan. He is additionally survived by several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased in death by his mother, Elizabeth; his father, Wilbur Stryker; and his sister, Dawn Redick.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington, Vermont. A prayer service will follow on Monday, November 24, 2025, also at Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
