With favorite James Taylor songs playing in the background and his family present, Todd Webster Miller "closed his eyes" for the last time on August 28, 2025, due to complications from pneumonia after a long period of declining health. Todd was born on April 3, 1960 in Burlington, Vermont, and lived in his early years in Montpelier. He attended Montpelier schools and graduated from high school as a proud and active member of the class of 1978, including serving as senior class president, a three-sport lettered athlete, and a Collegium Musicum participant. Todd then similarly became an engaged student in campus life at Middlebury College and a loyal alumnus upon graduating in 1983.
Following his college graduation, Todd was employed in various positions in the Burlington area, primarily at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) for 20 years, as well as at several retail sales positions. Despite years of significant health challenges, Todd lived independently in his beloved apartment in Burlington until earlier this year when hospitalized at UVMMC before transferring to a long-term nursing care facility in Bennington, Vermont.
Fond memories of Todd include his early years which were filled with joy, laughter, family and friends. Bright, gregarious, and generous, he formed lifelong friendships. Todd enjoyed many interests over the years: music, piano playing, reading, writing (a lover of Bread Loaf), cooking, cribbage, antique bottle collecting, plant nurturing, crafting, swimming, beach going in Maine, tennis, skiing, good eats and Starbucks anytime.
Todd is survived by his sister and brother-in-law (Deborah and Robert Burke), his brother and sister-in-law (Brent Miller and Dorothy Salvato), niece and family (Caroline Burke) and nephew (William Burke). He was predeceased by his parents (Evan and Gloria Miller).
There will be no service for Todd at this time. A celebration of his life is being planned for a later date. If anyone wishes to send online condolences of Todd, please refer to Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, Vermont. In keeping with his innate, friendly spirit, we hope anyone with old friends not seen or connected with in a long while will reach out to one another.
There are many people to thank for their kindness and care to Todd over the years. Although too numerous to mention, we have included: a few special lifelong friends-Joe Canavan, Heather Guild, Richard Pinkham, and the late Barrett Peterson; Todd's landlord of many years-Art Shields; and professionals at UVMMC, Mission Care, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Howard Center, and Aged Well.
"...So close your eyes
You can close your eyes, it's all right...
And you can sing this song
When I'm gone..."
