Susan Lisa Bourtell, 55, a resident of Route 7 in Pownal, VT died unexpectedly Saturday December 5, 2020 at her residence.

She was born in Bennington, Vermont June 10, 1965. She was the daughter of the late Philip and Wilma (Bacon) Shepard. Susan received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School.

She married Lindan "Sonny" Bourtell.

Susan was employed at Applegate Housing.. She was instrumental in writing the By-Laws for Applegate Apartments.

Susan was very good at giving advice and she had a way of calming people down. She loved to play BINGO Blitz on Facebook.

Survivors include her husband, Lindan "Sonny" Bourtell of Bennington a daughter, Lakiesha Shepard of Bennington. Two grandsons, Avery and Myan Shepard of Bennington. Two sisters, Karen A. Smith and Barbara Snow both of Bennington and a brother Joseph Shepard of Hoosick Falls, NY. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a sister Cheryl Grover.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday December 12, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Robin Greene officiating.

The burial will take place in the family lot at Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland, VT at the convenience of the family.
