Ryerson “Mickey” Mausert, 88, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, July 4, 2025 at the Vermont Veterans’ Home in Bennington, Vermont.
Rye was born on November 26, 1936 and was the son of Ryerson N. Mausert, Sr. and Margaret E. Haley. Growing up, Rye spent many summer vacations at his grandparent's chicken farm in Woodford, VT. His grandfather taught him life’s valuable lessons and they loved spending time hunting, fishing and farming.
Rye was a graduate of Bennington High School class of 1954. Following graduation, Rye served in the United States Air Force as a radar technician in C-130s and attained the rank of Airman 1st Class. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he was employed by General Electric in Thule, Greenland, as an electronics technician.
On April 28, 1962, he married the love of his life and his life-long dancing partner, Sandra Perez.
Rye obtained his secondary education at Siena College while employed at the Union Carbide in Bennington, VT. He graduated from Siena with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked as an accountant for various CPA firms.
In 1976, Ry opened his own accounting firm, NOW, Inc. and in 1984, he joined the Bank of Bennington, where he served as the bank’s Chief Financial Officer. Health issues led to his early retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the Bennington Rotary Club for 34 years serving as a past president and an active leader for the Bennington Antique Car Show sponsored by the Rotary Club.
Retirement always found Rye on his John Deere tractor working on various “property projects”; Rye described himself as a full-time “gentleman farmer”.
In 2012, the Mauserts purchased a “snowbird” home in Ocala, FL, spending the winter months there.
Rye’s life was filled with the love of his family, music, nature, politics, history as well as the many long cherished friendships he made over the years. His border collie, Daisey, was often found at his side at work and at home. His horse, Beauty, also brought him a great deal of joy.
Rye leaves his beloved Sandra with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, his son Ryerson Mausert and Patricia (Ogilvie) Mausert, his sister Rysonia Dawn (Mausert) Clarke, her husband Gregory, his brother-in-law David Perez from Barre, VT. as well as several nieces, a nephew, and many cousins throughout the Bennington and Connecticut areas.
Friends and relatives are invited for a time of visitation on July 12, 2025 from 10:00-11:00AM at Mahar & Son Funeral Home located at 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
