Rosecile Mary Johnson, 93 of Bennington, Vt., passed away in her home on August 26, 2025. She was born in Dorset, VT on May 1, 1932, the daughter of Dana G. and Elizabeth M. (West) Hart. She attended Dorset Schools. She married Frank E. Johnson on September 27, 1970. Mr. Johnson passed away on April 18, 2018.
Rosecile was a waitress at several area restaurants including Ramada, Friendly, Quality Restaurant and the Green Mountain Diner. She also worked as an operator for New England Telephone in Dorset and Bennington. Rosecile enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Western Square Dancers, The Catamounts, Promenabors, Berkshire Roundeleers and Northway Squares. She also enjoyed traveling, especially with her dance groups. Rosecile was the first female member of the Bennington Rescue Squad.
She is survived by her son, Chester Phillips of N. Adams, MA, her grandchildren; Tabitha Martell of Manchester, VT, Jillian Phillips of N. Adams, MA, and Lynda McDaniel of Hazel Green, AL, her great grandchildren; Skyler, Damian and Zoey Martell, Isabella Lemieux and Katie and Ryan Miller; her sister, Edna Mylott of Rutland, VT and several nieces and nephews. Rosecile was predeceased by a son, James Lee Phillips, her sisters, Nadine Kelly and Susan Hart, her brothers, Fred and Montie Hart and her daughter-in-law, Janet Phillips.
A graveside service for Rosecile will be held on Wednesday September 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington, VT.
