Ramona H. (Harrington) Gerity, 89, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness.
Born on February 28, 1936, in Greenwich, NY, Ramona was the daughter of the late Leo Surdam and Anna (Springer) Surdam in Potter Hill, NY. She received her education in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Ramona was very devoted to her family and the love she shared with those around her. She valued her home and time with loved ones, leaving lasting memories.
She married the love of her life Robert M. Gerity on February 12, 1954; together they shared many years of love and companionship raising their family in Bennington, VT.
She enjoyed going on walks with her husband, taking evening car rides, weekend trips to Lake Champlain, visiting the casino, and spending time with her family.
She worked at several Bennington mills and later provided daycare from home for many years.
She is survived by her son, Robert E Gerity and his wife Tammy of Shaftsbury; two daughters, Patricia Gallant of Bennington, and Anne Bakaitis and her husband William of Hoosick Falls, NY; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ramona enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren: Robert J Gerity, Tanner (Allyson) Gerity, Garrett (Courtney) Gerity, Rebecca Myers, Ashley (Justin) Walker, Christopher Gallant, Bridget Gallant, Meagan Sherman, Brian (Ashley) Pero, Brittany (Ben) Holcomb, Brianna (Daniel) Coonradt, Bethany (John) Chambers. Her great-grandchildren: Logan Gerity, Jacob Gerity, Jonanthan Gerity, Layla Myers, Wyatt Walker, Wesley Walker, William Walker, Anna Walker, Samantha Greene, Laikin Gallant, Severi Davendonis, Layla Pero, Kaelyn Grogan, Issac Holcomb, Avie Holcomb, Leighla Holcomb, David Chambers, Bentley Chambers, Jaxson Chambers, Daniel Coonradt Jr., Elsa Coonradt.
In addition to her parents, Ramona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert M. Gerity; a daughter, Linda L. (Gerity) Pero/Grover, Bennington, (2) granddaughters: Brooke L. Bakaitis of Hoosick Falls and Aime Pero of Bennington; (1) great-grandchild; Kaine Pero. Son-in-law, Christopher A Gallant; a sister, Helen Rock of Pownal, and a brother Raymond Harrington Jr. of Potter Hill, NY.
At the family’s request, there will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Life and burial will be held at later date at Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, VT.
