Pauline L. Moffitt, 86, a longtime resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the Southwest Vermont Medical Center, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born on June 29, 1938, in Arlington, Vermont, Pauline was the eldest of twelve children born to Claude and Adeline Squires. She grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, a value she carried with her throughout her life.
Pauline is survived by her beloved siblings: Roy Squires, Carl Squires, George Squires, and Matilda Blodget, all of Vermont, as well as her sister Stella Hoot of Maine. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with her uncle, Clarence Bettie of Virginia, and numerous cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Claude and Adeline Squires, and her siblings Gregory, Richard, Andrew, Eugene, an infant brother, and her sister Rita.
Over the years, Pauline worked with dedication at both the Bennington Banner and the Penny Saver, forming many lasting friendships and leaving a mark on the local community. She was known for her quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep love for her family.
Pauline made her home on Silver Street in Bennington, where she bravely faced her long journey with breast cancer. Her resilience and grace through her illness were an inspiration to those around her.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
