BENNINGTON
Margaret A. "Maggie" LaCroix, 83, a resident of Bradford Street, Bennington, died peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Bennington on May 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Generous) Gleason. Maggie received her early education at St Francis de Sales Academy and was a 1953 graduate of Bennington High School.
She married Roland J. LaCroix on July 11, 1953 at St. Francis de Sales Church. Roland died May 16, 2010.
In earlier years Maggie was employed at the Super Duper grocery in Bennington. She later worked for over twenty years as head cashier in the food service program at Mt. Anthony Union High School until her retirement in 1996.
Maggie was a life-long devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church where she served as a religious education teacher, was a former member of the parish council and was also active for several years in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
The largest role in her life was as a mother, not only to her six children, but to friends and families who came to her home for gatherings or conversations on the front porch on Bradford Street where she lived for 62 years. Maggie was also a great animal lover and is survived by her three cats, Clover, Cali and Emerald.
Survivors include four sons, Joseph (Gloria) LaCroix of Bennington, James (Becki) LaCroix of Florence, OR, Jeffrey (Laura) of Hollis, NH, Andre (Kathleen) of Loxahatechee, FL; a daughter, Mary Margaret "Peg" Caron (Daniel) of White Creek, NY; five grandchildren, Christopher LaCroix, Amy (fiancé Sam Bennett) LaCroix, Roland (fiancé Ginger) LaCroix, Margaret (fiancé Mike Gormley) Caron, and Hannah Caron; two great-grandchildren,a brother, Francis Gleason of Sandusky, OH and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Maggie was predeceased by a son, John LaCroix, a grandson, Preston LaCroix, a sister, Mary Cushing and brother, John Gleason.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 12:00 noon where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the family lot in the Village Cemetery in Bennington.
