Leonard Candib, age 85, a resident of Coleville Road in Bennington, VT died on Monday morning, August 17, 2020 following a brief illness.
Leonard was born in the Bronx, NY on April 7, 1935, and was the son of the late David and Mae (Gilinsky) Candib. At the start of World War II, in 1941, the family moved to Danby, VT. He attended schools in Danby and is a graduate of Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT. Leonard attended Paul Smith's College and received an Associate Degree in 1954. Leonard worked in the General Store in Danby and at Dave's TV with his father. The business grew and they moved to Manchester, and eventually to Bennington. He married Josephine Hurley on June 30, 1956. She died on October 7, 1990. He later married Hazel Harrison on January 9, 2005. She has also predeceased him. He ran the TV store for forty-five years before it closed. He later went to work for Bijur Lubricating in Bennington.
Leonard was a member of the Bennington ELKS Lodge and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, his ATV and his pride and joy Kubota tractor.
Leonard is survived by his children: Cherie Candib (Mike Maher) of Shaftsbury, VT, Brian (Tami) Candib of South Burlington VT, Mary-Barbara (Keith) Forman of Rio Rancho, NM, Wendy (Brian) Sicard of Colchester, VT, Chris (Kim) Candib of Barre, VT and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Candib of Bennington, VT. He leaves sixteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren. and his Harrison step-daughters; Elaine, Kay-Jean, Coleen, Judy, Sharon and their families; his brother, Samuel Candib, in Loudonville, NY and his sister, Rhoda Lawrence of Kalamazoo, MI. Leonard also leaves behind many close friends especially those from The Sunnyside Diner.
He is predeceased by his parents, both wives, and one son Timothy Candib.
Due to the COVID-19 protocols , there will be no calling hours.
The family will be having a graveside service at the Bennington Hebrew Cemetery on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11:00AM
