Lawrence E. "Larry" Molloy, 80, a longtime resident of Arlington, Vermont died Sunday July 17, 2022, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
He was born in Manchester, VT on February 19, 1942. He was the son of the late John and Ella (Keough) Molloy. Larry received his early education in Arlington schools and was a 1959 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School. He later graduated from Barber School in Schenectady, NY.
He married the former Barbara M. Murphy on July 6, 1963 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.
Larry owned and operated Larry's Barber Shop in Arlington for over 45 years. He also worked at the Arlington Variety and Liquor Store. Larry developed a strong interest in public service. He served as a member of the Arlington Board of Selectman from 1979-2011. He was also a Vt state house representative of Arlington, Sunderland, and Sandgate from 1994-2006.
Larry's family and community were very important to him. He was also proud of his Irish heritage and was known to wear a green derby and boutonniere to celebrate.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara M. Molloy of Bennington. Two daughters, Meredith A Englebert and her husband Jeff of Painted Post, NY and Molly E Mulholland and her husband Michael of Manchester, N.H. Three grandchildren, Christopher Englebert of Albany, N.Y. and Katie and Thomas Mulholland of Manchester, N.H. Two sister in laws, Joan Douglass of Bennington and Jane Molloy of Maryland along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Paul Molloy.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday July 21, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 am. The Funeral Mass will follow at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m.
