James D. King, 84, a resident of Cleveland Ave in Shaftsbury, VT died unexpectedly Friday September 10, 2021 while visiting his daughter Toni in Maine.
He was born at the family home in East Arlington November 2, 1936. He was the son of the late John T. and Frances (Mann) King. Jim received his education in Arlington and was a 1955 graduate of Arlington High School. Following high school Jim joined the United States Army where he served in Germany for two years.
He married the former Elizabeth Ann Harwood in Manchester on May 29, 1958. Mrs. King died June 20, 2012.
For forty years Jim was employed at Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury. He held several positions over the years. He worked as a machine operator, a foreman and a leader. Jim retired from Stanley Tools in 1998.
He was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Jim enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and boating. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13, the Bennington Elks Lodge # 567, the Bennington Eagles Club and St. Stanislaw Society in Hoosick Falls.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Paquin and Lisa McGuire (Peter) of Shaftsbury, VT and Toni King (Brian Hovey) of Newport, Maine. A son, Terry King (Allison) of Bennington, VT. Nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A sister, Charlotte Houghton of Manchester, VT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Carolyn King and Joanne Keough and a brother Jack King, Jr.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial Mass will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Thursday September 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
The burial will follow in the family lot at the South Shaftsbury Cemetery.
