Douglas George Sweet

May 23, 1938 — June 19, 2022

BENNINGTON- Douglas George Sweet, 84, a resident of Convent Avenue in Bennington passed away peacefully on June 19, 2022 following a brief illness.

Born on May 24, 1938 in Bennington, Vermont he was the son of the late Edward and Anna (Granger) Sweet. Doug received his early education and graduated from North Bennington High School in 1957. He later graduated with an associate's degree in accounting from Saint Joseph's college in Bennington.

On January 30th, 1965 he married the former Linda Grover at Bennington Methodist Church in Bennington.

Doug was self-employed as an accountant and an enrolled agent For over 46 years.
He was also a veteran of the United States Army

Doug was a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge #567 and the Bennington American Legion Post #13. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with Linda, going to tag sales with her and spending their winters in Florida together.

Doug is survived by his wife of 57 years Linda Sweet. Their four children; Mark Sweet (Michelle) of Bennington, Steve Sweet of Shaftsbury, Anna Sweet of Ormond Beach, Florida and Jeff Sweet (Sarah) of Bennington. His grandchildren; Matthew, Casey, Kayla, Ava, Clayton, and Austin. His great grandchildren; Ivy, Harper, and William Jr. His nieces; Monica Sweet and Beverly Hilse. As well as his nephews Ira and Bill Sweet, and Patrick and Ed Watkins.

Doug is predeceased by his siblings; Alice Hilse, Stella Watkins, and Edward and David Sweet.

A memorial service in honor of Doug will be held at 11am on June 25th, 2022 at the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury, Vermont. There will be a reception to immediately follow the service.
