NORTH BENNINGTON
Diane Walsh Chaloux, 73, of North Bennington, died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Albany Medical Center.
Diane was born on June 29, 1948 in Rutland, Vermont the daughter of Frank and Marcella (Rice) Walsh. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy and later attended St. Joseph's College in Bennington, Vermont. Throughout the 1970s, Diane worked at Bird's, in Downtown Bennington. Diane went on to nursing school, first earning her LPN and later her RN and bachelor's degree (while working and raising two children) from Southern Vermont College. Diane's career as a nurse spanned almost forty years, working first at Putnam Memorial Hospital/SVMC and later bringing her skills to Bennington Area Home Health, SVMC Orthopedics and SVMC Internal Medicine. Upon retirement, Diane became full-time "Meme" to her grandsons, Leo and Gus.
Diane married Patrick (Rick) Chaloux on June 13, 1970 in Fairfield, Vermont. They enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage together, starting off in a small apartment as very young newlyweds and eventually settling on Grandview Street in North Bennington " a village that Diane was very proud to call home.
Diane enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens, her weekly yoga classes, and knitting. She built an impressive record collection during her time at Bird's and never stopped seeking out new music to experience.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family: her husband, Rick; daughter Abigail Chaloux of Shaftsbury, Vermont; son Peter Chaloux (Carrie Dailey) of Jericho, Vermont; and her grandchildren Leo, Noah, Gus, Milo and Anna. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Michael Walsh, and her sister, Maureen Buck.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, July 16, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Diane's family asks that those attending calling hours not wear black but to celebrate her life with color, like the amazing flowers in her beloved gardens.
