Constance “Connie” Marie (Burton-Mckeown) Smith, 85, resident of Cow Path Lane in Bennington, VT passed away on May 6, 2025.

She was born on December 5, 1939 in Long Island City, NY. She was the daughter of the late George Burton and Evelyn (Fitzsimmons) Mckeown. She received her early education in Connecticut, and graduated from Darien High School in Darien, CT. In 1959 she married John F. Smith.

In the late 1970s, Connie moved to Bennington from Darien. Connie worked as an office supervisor for JCPenny. She would later work for 20 years as an assistant for the United McGill Corporation in Bennington, where she retired from.

Connie was very involved in community service. She gave her time for many years to the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Hospitality Group and with HIS Pantry. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Bennington Museum and the Bennington Free Library. Connie was also very passionate about the Relay for Life; she spent over 15 years helping organize and facilitate the yearly event.

Connie was an avid spectator at her grandchildren’s sporting events, visiting friends and family from East to West Coast, reading, and spending time with her “Connecticut friends”.

Connie is survived by a son, William Casey Smith (Marie Grande) of Bennington, VT. A daughter-in-law Christiane O’Connor of Puyallup, Washington. A son-in-law William Wright of Bennington, VT. Her sisters, Susan Holman of Springhill, FL and Barbara Moy (Albert) Fernandina, FL. Her brothers, Thomas Wisehart of Aiken, SC, George Burton Jr. (Cheryl), and step-brother James Burton of Loudonville, NY. Her grandchildren Alexis Korey Wright, Connor Patrick Smith, Chase Anthony Smith, and Daniel Smythe. A cousin, Beverly Wieland of Seacliff, NY. As well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Connie is predeceased by her son Gavin John Smith, and her daughter Kelly Ann Wright. A step-father, Charles H. Wisehart. A brother-in-law Frederick H. Holman. As well as a longtime friend, Annette Amato.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Connie will be held at the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church on May 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the mass, a graveside committal service will be held at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery located in Bennington, VT.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Connie may be made to HIS Pantry, Cancer Center Community Crusaders, and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the office of E.P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home located at 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
