Bessie I. Burgess, 101, a resident of Homestead Mews in North Bennington, VT died Monday March 21, 2022 at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born in North Bennington, VT October 30, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Church) Vadakin. Bessie received her education in North Bennington and was a member of the North Bennington High School basketball team.
She married Milton Burgess in 1954. Mr. Burgess died February 13, 1988.
In earlier years Bessie had been employed at the EZ Mill and Thomson Manufacturing both in Bennington.
She was a member of the Bennington Eagles and the Bennington Moose Club. Her home and family were her main interest.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Burgess (Wendy), Timothy Burgess (Melissa Stratton), Ronald Burgess all of Bennington and Kevin Burgess (Karen) of Colchester, VT. A foster daughter, Verna Chaplin Potter of Kittery, Maine. Along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Harriet Harrington, a foster son, Mark Chaplin, three brothers, Clayton, Robert and Forrest Vadakin and a sister, Blanche Harwood.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday March 25 at 2:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m.
The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
