Mrs. Mae Candib, age 98, widow of David Candib, and former resident of Walloomsac Apartments, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Twin Maples Community Care Home.
She married David in New York City on March 15, 1934. Mr. Candib died in 1973.
Born in the Bronx, NY, December 7, 1913, she was the daughter of the late David and Rose (Mesnick) Gilinsky, and was a graduate of Morris High School in the Bronx.
For decades, they had run the General Hardware Store in Danby, VT. After moving to Bennington, they operated Dave’s TV Store. In later years, she also worked at Ben Mont Paper Company, Thomson Manufacturing, and Globe Union.
Mrs. Candib was a Life Member of the Eastern Star in Danby. She also volunteered at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and at BROC. Her hobbies and interests included knitting, crocheting, and baking cookies.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhoda Lawrence of Kalamazoo, MI, two sons: Leonard (Hazel) Candib of Bennington, and Sam (Linda) Candib of Loudonville, NY . She leaves twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She is predeceased by two sisters; Irene Gillins of Bennington, and Lillian Bresnahan of Albuquerque, NM and two brothers; Ben Gilinsky of Brooklyn and Sidney Gilinsky of Albany, NY.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 4:00 PM at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, in Bennington with Rabbi Howard Cohen.
Burial will follow immediately in the Bennington Hebrew Cemetery at Park Lawn Cemetery.
